CORPORATE PROFILE

online, all the time
If the most mission-critical application is email and your company demands access to information at all times, there’s clearly one thing you cannot be without: connectivity. Whether it’s high-speed access to the Internet, a secure connection to employees who are off-site, or an ability to power a 24x7 online front end to your business, connectivity is key.

Introducing the connect phase of GLOBAL MICRO’S lifecycle approach to managed IT services, the smartest way to keep your technology in touch with the people important to your business.

the what
Always-on, high-speed connectivity is no longer on the wish list of savvy South African SMBs --- it’s a non-negotiable pre-requisite. In the connect stage of our lifecycle, we offer a choice of basic broadband access, a dedicated leased network line, company-wide secure wireless Internet access, a virtual private network (VPN) or mobile solutions for broadband access on-the-go. We will also soon offer voice-over-IP-based unified communications solutions.

Diginet
We offer you a fixed line direct connection to the Internet via our own, dedicated, leased ‘diginet ’ line. Available in a series of options depending on your need for speed, bandwidth and support, the leased line option can be an affordable means of delivering high-speed access to your business.
Broadband
Broadband ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) access allows you to access the Internet, send and receive your e-mail and run your business at the speeds associated with Corporate networks, but at a fraction of the cost. We offer fixed line and wireless solutions at 512K or 1024K, along with a variety of value added services.

Benefits

  • ADSL is an "always-on" technology
  • Users may benefit from a reduction in associated call costs
  • ADSL provides high-speed access to the Internet
  • ADSL can be enabled on the existing telephone line at the user’s premises
Mobile Solutions
Gone are the days of high-speed access only being available when connected to your local area network or roaming your office on your wireless network. Today’s companies are looking for connectivity no matter where they are. And for that, GLOBAL MICRO offers one of the widest ranges of 3G-based mobile broadband solutions on the market.
  • GPRS : In today's busy world, being productive while mobile is about more than just talking. Via GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), a mobile worker has the ability to be able to work "dynamically" via a connection to the office network or the internet.
  • EDGE: Edge (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) - a faster version of standard GPRS, using a new technique and introducing improvements in the radio protocol to deliver data at nominal rates up to 230 Kbps.
  • 3G: a so-called "third-generation (3G)" broadband offering that offers text, digitised voice, video, and multimedia at data rates up to and higher than 2 megabits per second (Mbps). 3G offers a consistent set of services to mobile computer and phone users no matter where they are.
  • HSDPA: a 3G enhancement that delivers superior speed. Its performance is comparable to today's wireless LAN services, but with the added benefit of mobility and ubiquitous coverage.
  • MyWireless: technological advances and a new regulatory framework have enabled Sentech to launch the first true broadband wireless service offering, capable of delivering unrestricted, high-speed, portable, always on Internet access at an affordable monthly cost.
  • iBurst: an always on wide-area mobile broadband technology offering a unique combination of high speed, wide range and high base station capacity. It’s built on two primary components: base stations deployed by a network operator, much like today’s cellular services, and wireless modems or PC cards that you use with an existing Internet appliance, such as a notebook
Virtual Private Networks
A virtual private network (VPN) is literally just that: a network connection that is private and secure that two or more parties can use, and it’s virtual because it often uses a small portion of a far more powerful ‘pipe’ and dedicates that to you, and is only operational when needed.

At GLOBAL MICRO, we work with VPNs in three key scenarios: where you have employees off-site and they need secure access to your internal systems; where you need a secure and consistent connection to a large customer or a business partner; or where you need to connect directly to us so that we can support your technology.

The principle behind all three applications is the same – and we utilise the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and two-factor authentication protocols to give you complete control and peace of mind.

the how
Once you’ve settled on our connectivity offering, there are several options available depending on your specific needs. GLOBAL MICRO will partner with you to ensure the correct option is chosen for your business.
